MGMT - The Youth
Directed by Eric Wareheim. Edited by Ben Berman. Produced by Clark Reinking.
MGMT makes some pretty music that reminds me of old 60's anthems. Like the Beatles with less talent, I still really enjoy them. This video has a sort of Little Miss Sunshine theme going for it. Unfortunately this was one of the few MGMT videos that I was able to post. Hopefully I can find some more for ya.

RQM - Bloody Sunday Mp3 (Robot Koch version)
RQM - Bloody Sunday Mp3 (Robot Koch version)
DOWNLOAD IT:
BLOODY SUNDAY (ROBOT KOCH VERSION).mp3
(Right Click Save As)
Bloody Sunday is an unauthorized version of the U2 classic and it reeks of sample theft - YEP I SAID IT - so giving it up Danger Mouse style is really the only viable option of releasing it. We wrote it for Fritz Radio Berlin - their Sunday show. We were invited to do a live session with Robot back in the The Tape vs RQM days, and like all other guests asked to do a cover of Bloody Sunday. The cover turned into its own song organically. On a musical tip I would say it builds on the Glitch foundation but pushes into the Pop realm at least some and tastefully. Lyrically it's my tribute to that toxic Rock N Roll type of relationship that swings on the extremes and burns out quick. The first verse:
"Bloody Sunday - Bad liver/She on a runway - didn't see her till Monday/Both loving the High ways the High life the High rise - Never Mind the price/We in Nirvana -Sugar and Spice Girl give me your Drama/Smash the cellie - Now Baby holler/Inhale me like a snowflake through a Dollar/Crisp Bills - Cris. spills/Girl you take the edge off this Evil/Girl I need You - So bring over your Sugar I'm uh lead you into my High life/We'll look out my High rise with Blood-shot eyes and see the Sun rise/It'll be beautiful Really - Lost souls Addicted to each other - getting High off of this Bad Love Chemistry
There are a few references to Nirvana in the song. There s more in the second verse and the C-Part. And yo..funny enough I was reading up on Kurt Cobain today, who's life has been fascinating me recently(I missed the 90s madness chewing on Biohazard and Sick of It All etc) and it turns out that he was born on February 20th!!! Consider this a Birthday tribute to man, who's trials and problems represent those of a lot of artists today. RIP

Dark Captain Light Captain
This is the prettiest music I've heard all last year. They now released a remix ep called well...um..."remix" ep.

"Driven by a quest for a killer vocal harmony and a constant desire to make their hearts beat ever so slightly faster than normal, Dark Captain Light Captain's songs range from malignant and accusatory to wildly optimistic, with comparisons varying from Kings Of Convenience to The Violent Femmes. Now the Captain's return with this diverse and carefully crafted EP of remixes that includes the dubbed out Mercury Rev vibes of 'Summer' complete with motorik groove and spooked horns. The sultry balearic groover that is 'Remote View' as mixed by Chicken Feed and the achingly beautiful new version of 'Questions' by San Fran's favorite ambient kraut-disco son Hatchback (one half of the duo Windsurf on Prins Thomas' label), who comes on like Philip Glass on Quaaludes at sunset."

DJ A-Trak - DMC World 1997 (Canada)
DMC is the competition where scratch DJ's from all over the world compete to see who is the world champion. Most of the people performing have been competing for years and have mastered their craft. So you can imagine the shockwave that was sent through the hip hop nation when a 15 year old boy going by the name A-Trak, actually won. You can even see one of the judges laughing behind his fist, as he sat in awe of this kids skills. That is a laugh of disbelief or maybe just realizing that a new era had begun and what had won in the past would simply no longer be enough to pull it off. Time to practice harder to keep up with the kids if you know what I mean. Even as A-Traks successful career continues, this is the video I always think of. It blew me away then just as it does now.

Mayday! feat. Cee-Lo & DJ Craze - Groundhog Day
Mayday puts together s nice team for Groundhog Day. Cee-Lo Green has become famous as one half of Gnarls Barkley after cutting his teeth as the most exciting member of The Goodie Mob. DJ Craze has one a number of DMC scratch championships to the point where you would be hard pressed to state that anyone is better at what he does best. The end result is a good positive blend of head bopping vibes that will leave me searching for more Mayday cuts.

Amanda Blank "Might Like You Better"
Female rappers have a had a long uphill battle to gain acceptance in the music industry. For white female rappers... well, good luck to you. Amanda Blank has been making waves recently and has deservingly caught the attention of many people. This is a rather dirty track with some nice production that will surely get the club dance floor active. The video is a smooth production that compliments this seductive number.

LCD Soundsystem - Losing My Edge
This one is quite a calamity as James Murphy professes why he will never be as cool as the new hipsters, but will always compete. The song Losing My Edge actually pushed the boundaries of what edge was at that point which compounds the irony of the title from someone who manufactures New York hipster cool at an alarming rate. The first time I heard this song it made me laugh. It reminded me of some people from my past who always had to try to outdo everyone else in the cool department as if there was a hidden camera running and someone was going to come running around the corner with some over-sized check shouting "Congratulations, you are our grand-prize winner for being the coolest person in the world". James Murphy realizes that such endeavors are pointless, and thank god so do I.
