Rae Davis vs. Baraka

Rae Davis a music lover and producer decided to challenge a documentary "Baraka". Whoa! This one is a must see. This track is banging and the visuals up to snuff. This one kept me intrigued and wishing it would keep going, a nice piece of work on both fronts.

Apse - The Gloom

There's nothing wrong with being this good. These guys make me feel like others are underachiving. There is definitely a Radiohead inspiration on this one. This is straight acid rock with a cinematic air about it. Kinda gives you the chills, don't it!

Large Professor - The Mad Scientist

This is pure hip hop gold. I've heard this song many times over and it never gets old. This takes me back to one of my favorite periods in hip hop history. Everything hits just right on this one. It plays like an underappreciated soundtrack to an era.

Amp Fiddler - I Believe In You

I first saw this guy performing with The Detroit Experiment along with Carl Craig at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival. He is a great musician and composer first, a singer 3rd. That doesn't stop Amp from working out this smooth soul gem with authority.

Nightmares On Wax - Les Nuits

When I first got into Acid Jazz or Trip Hop, I remember hearing this on the Mo' Wax "Heads" Compilation, which at the time played as the downtempo bible of coolout. For a fair amount of time, Mo' Wax was the hottest due in part to the participation by a young DJ Shadow. Nightmares on Wax has since proven to be one of the most consistent artists playing this type of music. If you like this, you should check out Quincy Jones' "Summer In The City". We used to have a scooter when we were kids, not of the electric variety, but a scooter no less. I don't think I ever once felt cool on it. I wanted to feel cool on it, but no, it just wasn't meant to be. Then along comes Nightmares on Wax proving me wrong, or were they?

Roots Manuva - Too Cold

The Tale of Lord Manuval from the mind of Roots Manuva. This period piece is in many ways perfect. The sky's the limit for this guy, I just hope he can keep up the good work. I am relieved also that duels were made illegal a long time ago. Let's keep the dueling to rhymes, scratchin' and breakin'.

Squarepusher - My Red Hot Car

Man, this song is about so much more than a car. Actually it's quite a dirty little piece of a..rt. Squarepusher is one of a kind and you either love and respect what they do or probably just get really confused. If you like this, be sure to search out our posting of Come On My Selector. After this one I'm finally for the first time questioning what that title means as well. Hmmm. Excuse me while I try some new dance moves to this track. You ever want to destroy a dance floor, play some Squarepusher and watch the struggle ensue.

TERMANOLOGY - WATCH HOW IT GO DOWN

Wow! Termanology has the makings of the next great rap star. This one just keeps coming and coming. Some people just have a natural flow as displayed on this track produced by DJ Premier. Incorporating all the aspects that have made New York City hip hop one of a kind throughout the years, I found myself hunting for more by this duo. This is my favorite so far and is definitely worthy of cult status among true hip hop fans and artists.

T. Raumschmiere - Sick Like Me

T. Raumschmiere is one of those creators who is not interested in maintaining category status. Obviously coming from some sort of hardcore rock experience he has crafted a gem for hardcore fans of both electronic and rock music. It rides the line between hardcore and what most hardcore truly is, unlistenable. It captures the spirit of so many hardcore anthems before it without becoming inaccessible. It also manages to distance itself from anything resembling cheesy gimmickry. Play it loud!

Roots Manuva - Witness

Roots Manuva is hilarious on this one. This video is great and features what is his most popular song from a very prolific career. It's no secret that being in good shape helps you feel better about yourself. Whether you win or lose a competition is not nearly as important as giving it 110 percent. Roots is a real competitor who embodies the spirit of sportsmanship, as displayed in this video. Pure genius!

The Bamboos - King of the Rodeo feat. Megan Washington

This song is so perfectly clean I almost want to resist it. That's also what makes it so good. Everything is on point, the video is fun, and the band is full of beaurifully talented women. What more could you ask for? You'll be hearing this on a commercial soon enough!

Free Blood - The Royal Family

I have no idea what this is about but upon more than one listen it becomes more and more contagiously catchy. I suddenly want to play it loud. The video is irresistably bizarre. Can't wait to hear more from these guys.

J. Boogie's Dubtronic Science - Revolution feat. Lyrics Born & The Mamaz

This is a real nice jam from J. Boogie. He brought along Lyrics Born and The Mamaz to provide some real revolutionary rap. Lyrics Born is one of my favorite mc's and I believe this is my first introduction to The Mamaz, who certainly do not disappoint on this outting. The video is a cool collage of revolutionary imagery. We're all about revolution here at Najahead. Without revolution we would be British instead of 'merican. No thanks:)

El-p - Smithereens (Stop Crying)

© 2007 Def Jux.

El-p kicks non-stop underground bliss with this video featuring imagery of waterboarding and torture made chic by those serving Uncle Sam in Guantanamo. It's hard to watch, even knowing this video is obviously not real. Word has it that some of these people might actually get a trial to determine if they deserve to rot in that hell, someday, possibly, maybe. What a novel idea. They should have put that in the constitution. I get it, war is hell. El-p has been featured on this site before and will surely be found here again. Definitive Jux is possibly the best at what they do, and El-p is the genius behind it. Keep rockin' it!

Budos Band - Volcano

© 2007 Daptone.

E.L. hipped me to the Budos Band and bought me this single in Colorado. These guys lay down some serious funk that makes you wanna grab a bongo or cowbell or wooden fish and get in on the action. I love seventies cartoons and this video can be included in that genre. This is the real deal.

Maps - It Will Find You

© 2007 Mute.

Official video for "It Will Find You", from Maps debut album WE CAN CREATE. Directed by Atticus Finch.

This video is awesome. I love all the clouds speeding over the city. The vocals are not my favorite part of this track but they are not bad. The beats and music are on point. I'm looking forward to hearing more from this guy.

!!! - Must Be The Moon

© 2007 Warp.

Back when I used to walk around campus I always got invited to the feast at the local Hare Krishna house. I never went because nothing is worse than being pressured into a religion your not into. I always imagined that those feasts were exactly like this. What do I do now, leave or join in? Thanks for the tofu burger. No you may not paint my nipples. Chow! I guess they pronounce this chk chk chk which is not nearly as fun as exclamation point exclamation point exclamation point. Let's chant for an encore, what do you say?

Motor - Bleep #1

This is the promotional video for the first single taken from MOTOR's new album 'UNHUMAN'. © 2007 Mute.

It is useless to deny the impact of personal experience on perception. After attending the Detroit Electronic Music Festival several years running, it is hard for me to not imagine hearing and seeing something like this in the park basement and getting chills down my spine as the crowd gets amped. There is something purely Detroit about this "bleepy" jam.

Brother Ali - Uncle Sam Goddamn

© 2007 Rhymesayers.
From the album "The Undisputed Truth".

How's this for an election day selection. As both parties try to run on the message of change, Brother Ali is here to highlight the fact that our government has preyed on the poor in our country and others for too long. Brother Ali is one of the most underrated mc's in the game today. His powerful message is delivered with eloquent flows that seem to come with ease, as uneasy as these truths are. Regardless of the outcome of today's election, hopefully this government can choose to start leading us in the right direction, one that is interested in helping even it's poorest citizens as much as the rich.

Bassnectar - Bomb The Blocks

Check out the new brighter and better exclusive video from Bassnectar entitled: 'Bomb the Blocks.' Bassnectars' full length release 'Underground Communication' drops April 24th on Om Records. © 2007 Om Records.

Oh hell yes, this is a strictly hardcore mash-up that comes dangerously close to being overkill. But it doesn't, and I fully endorse more efforts like this on this fine election day. Hopefully my other votes prove to be as fruitful as this find.

El-P feat. Trent Reznor - Flyentology

"Flyentology" featuring Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails. From the album I'll Sleep When You're Dead. © 2007 Definitive Jux

Wow! This is possibly the most accessible cut from El-P I have ever heard. Accessible is not always good and his previous efforts are certainly a cut above the typical muck of hip hop underground, however this song and perfectly complimentary video show that we are still only glimpsing the edge of this prolific artists capabilities. El Producto pulls in a rockstar legend in Trent Reznor to help push this over the top. If it's been awhile since you've visited the Nine Inch Nails catalogue or if you haven't heard there new stuff, seek it out immediately. They are still cutting edge and it's great to here him alongside one of hip hop's finest. The song is about trying to rise above mediocrity, maintaining individualism, while avoiding being left behind for refusing to adapt or conform. As with most complex efforts by El-P, this is no small subject matter. In the end, survival rules all.

HELLO Everyone!

What's up? What's happening? Is There Still Anyone Out There on Myspace? Or has everyone switched over to Facebook? Anyone? Anyone? Myspace still holds down all the music on the web, and that's why I still do what I do. So if you're around Colorado, check out at least one!
