Cadence Weapon - Sharks

Directed by Cosmonaut
© 2007 Upper Class Recordings.

Cadence Weapon is an mc to watch for the future. This song is hilarious and comes with a sweet video to boot. The production is severe, I can't wait to hear it on some big speakers. This video pays homage to the video games I played before I was too old to be messing with such things. Don't get me wrong, I play all the time. It is interesting what was once so entertaining is no longer so stimulating, that's why hip hop needs more people like Cadence Weapon!

Lulu Mushi - Cartwheel

© 2007 Mush. Directed by Scott Mredette and Gabe Imlay. From the album Sample Sail.

I can't tell you anything about this group, but I came across this video and really liked it. It is a collage of old video that is comforting in a nostalgic way, unless your hung over, then it can be discomforting in many ways. This is a real straightforward (or backward) downtempo cut. It sounds good to me and should be recognized by fans of chillout.

Bigg Jus - Illustrations Of Hieronymus Bosch

Music video for "Illustrations of Hieronymus Bosch" by Bigg Jus. Directed by Stemspot. From the album Poor People's Day. © 2007 Mush

Bigg Jus is real nice on the mic. This is one of the best songs off of the Poor People's Day album. I knew he was good, but upon review of this album, I clearly underestimated him. It seems El-P wasn't the only reason for Company Flow's success. Bigg Jus is not for the light of heart. "Close your eyes if your squeamish". This is real revolutionary rap!

Daedelus - Just Briefly

Music video for "Just Briefly" by Daedelus. Directed by Chroma*Fresh. From the album Exquisite Corpse on Mush Records.

Daedelus has been making waves in the music world for years. He is consistently creative, at times to a fault. This video is an example where he hits the mark. The song is one that inspires you to hum along and the video is pure visual candy.

Loden - Tenofour

This is quite a beautiful outing from Loden on Mush records. This is an airy glitch narrative that flows like waves lapping against a shoreline. You can almost feel the cold water and wet sand between your toes as you watch a somewhat comforting visual of kids frolicking at the beach, ignorant to the cares of the world, truly free. This song has just enough structure to keep my attention throughout. I suppose it is sort of a teaser if you are expecting a crescendo climax at some point. I would not say I am disappointed when it left me wanting more, I kind of figure that to be the artists intention.

Team Shadetek - Brooklyn Anthem

This one is a straight up anthem. I think it might be on last year's Madden soundtrack. I know I've heard it a million times and I just came across the video. This one is a real jam. Bo!

Zion feat. The Grouch & Mistah F.A.B. - Hit 'Em

This is another great track from Zion I featuring The Grouch and Mistah F.A.B. The video is an aggressive display of a fight club that is true to the nature of this posse track. The beat hits as hard as the lyrics with some serious quality hip hop.

Madvillain - Monkey Suit

When MF Doom and Madlib team up, heads take notice. Both of these creators are genius on their own, together their undeniably fascinating. They are like an underground Gnarls Barkley. This is off the same album that the last Madlib video was from. Sounds like a good one. You should probably go out and buy this immediately.

Madlib - Take It Back

Can't get enough of that bad kid Madlib. No wonder, he's always diggin in them cakes, I mean crates. Maybe I'm losing touch when this sounds more "normal" to me than those freaknik jams they play on the radio hip hop stations. Madlib has a strong appreciation for hip hop history that permeates all his music. The video is cool, lyrics on point, and production's ample. Typical Madlib, he even works in a shoutout to Dilla, R.I.P. E.L. and I saw Jaylib a few years back at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival. Word, that's once in a lifetime sh**!

Pigeon John - Freaks

This is almost a little too formulaic form my taste in underground hip-hop, but it's a funny song and video and overall it's pretty nice. Rhettmatic throws in some scratch-up for good measure and you get yet another Quannum jem. "Underground Hip-Hop equals no women". That's funny and also unfortunately very accurate.

Melodium - Flacana 05

It's seems like anytime I pick up any of my favorite rags, there is always a review of Melodium in there somewhere and they're usually pretty good ones. Having never heard them before this track, I was pleasantly surprised at the eloquence of their musical expression. I instantly was attracted to it and it took me back in time to childhood memories of staring out rainy windows on roadtrips and laying in the grass gazing at the clouds in the sky. I'm still a skygazer, but I can't ever seem to return to the time when my mind was unclouded by the worries of when rent is due, what time I need to work in the morning, how anybody ever voted for George Bush, and why Barack Obama will probably not get elected with everybody swearing up and down that it had nothing to do with race. It seems that only children get the comfort of watching the world with unadulterated awe and wonder. Just as I was realizing this video's effects on me, they showed an image of a boy riding a bike with training wheels. Whether it is the artists intent or the video maker's interpretation of the music, there is something vary soothing about this song that makes it seem almost like a forgotten lullaby. Goodnight!

Colossus - The Tribute

This is a real nice quality track from the group Colossus. This dude has one of those flows that is real laidback. I know I've heard him before, but from where, I'm just not sure. Anyways this is mos def some Najahead quality stuff, blazing hip-hop set to the back drop of city lights at night. It's like pb & j, somethings are just meant to be together.
