Subtitle - Untsoppable '03

I could actually use some subtitles for this one. Seriously, this dude is either breaking down the science of elements or the elements or science if you are so inclined. This reminds me of a Dr. Octagon mad scientist experiment without the perversion which is rather pleasant. I wish more people would take this approach, they could all sound a little more like Beans. To the next experiment, there is so much research to do in so little time. Fetch me my bag Egor!

Coldcut feat. Roots Manuva - True Skool

It's hard to imagine anybody knowing any more about being true skool than the duo Coldcut. As the leaders of Ninja Tune records, they have continuously invented music on the brink of creativity and experimentation. Forever pushing the envelope, Coldcut features possibly their finest and probably most successful artist from their label, Roots Manuva. The combination works perfectly and is here complimented with plenty of visual candy to keep anyone interested who might be hip enouch to be in the know about these guys or just have the exceptional luck to stumble across it. This should be in an ipod commercial and they should pay me lots of money for telling them what they need to know. Have your people call my people. Word is born!

Motion Man feat. Gift Of Gab - One Time For Your Mind

Few people can stand next to Gift Of Gab from Blackalicious and hang lyrically, but Motion Man pulls his own weight as the host on this one. The main elements of hip hop are present on this one with the exception of graffin. As for the B-boying, well, maybe we better just focus on the music which is helped dramatically with the on-point turntablism compliments of Kutmasta Kurt. This is an all-star jam by some of "underground" hip hops finest, in essence, what it's all about!

Biggie Smalls Freestyle

This video clip is from the documentary "Freestyle" which I thought was pretty good, but this clip alone was the gem of the movie. I rewound this particular clip and watched it about 4-5 times in disbelief. Man he was good, and may us never forget that he was the best, and might still be the best. EVER.

The Budos Band "Volcano Song"

I don't even know if this is the actual video to the song or not.
But I have been promoting any musician on Daptone Records to anybody and everybody who will listen. For the Budos Band...who needs vocals, when you have those horns??

Check out Daptone Records Here!

Kraak & Smaak "Squeeze Me"

I Love this Video, and from what I've heard (30 seconds each song via iTunes Store) I love the new album. I highly recommend "Plastic People".

Boards Of Canada - Dayvan Cowboy

This track is an epic selection from Boards Of Canada. The visuals definitely help this one out. You ever hear a song that makes you feel like your floating on clouds? How about accelerating towards clouds on your way back to Earth? This one is a far out trip that ends at the place of the beginning, that is if you believe that sort of thing. Get back in the water fishees! I've got to check out more from these guys. Fans of Zero 7 and Air would do well to add these guys to the collection.

Wax Tailor - Hypnosis Theme

I find it completely appropriate for our 100th Posting to be something relatively new to us that exemplifies the best of downtempo. It was the "trip hop" movement that seemed to pull us into an entirely new and fascinating world of music where every vanguard of the genre displayed possibilities it seemed previously unconsidered or sometimes fathomed. Wax Tailor has put together a beautiful track with an astonishing video to show that regardless of bpm or stigmatized genres, hard work can really pay off with something special. At first I was somewhat apprehensive of showing a video that displayed the human body in all it's features. It is funny that I feel more comfortable showing a naked body that is constructed by a computer than the real thing. It's as if the filter of the construct has sterilized it to become less shocking as if there is something wrong with the real thing. The fact is I can't really tell if it's real or not. I think this video drifts back and forth from real footage to digital imaging, blurring boundaries just as Wax Tailor has done with this music. Removing the walls of expectations is not at all unlike tearing down the walls of resistance in the mind through hypnosis. We will continue to do our best to tear down all the walls and borders in this site and our personal lives. Then maybe we will continue to take these field trips into the surreal and bizarre world of art, causing you to feel free to Najahead! Peace!

MENOMENA

Every year I have a family get together up in the islands of Ohio, and my my brother Alex wanted me to listen to this one band he was really digging this year. With much skepticism (As I always) , I opened my ears once again for a new music trip. This time I think it was at about 3:30 am Eastern Time, on a screened in porch, with no other sounds on the islands except for the crashing of waves from the Eriest of Lakes. Check out their latest albums which both of these songs/videos are on "Friend and Foe".

YELLE "Ceu Jeu"

This is off the French Fried Tip...some crazy French Music for your ears. I wish I was as good as Atom in writing a quick little review about each video post, but in all reality I really no nothing about Yelle. I just know I like it, and it's not popular in America yet...But I imagine it's only a matter of time. Actually only a matter of the next television commercial background music. Ya Heard.

DJ Maxximus feat. Soom T - Reason

I had always heard good things about DJ Maxximus and judging from this video I've been missing out. The production is nice, the vocals are smooth and the video is just sick. I'll definitely be looking for more from this dude. Finding stuff like this is what makes contributing to this blog a blast! Can't get enough karate dancing to music. Have you noticed?

Zion I - The Bay

E.L. put me on to this one some years ago. He threw in this cd and went straight to this track. At the end he was like "you can't tell me that wasn't sweet!" I've been feeling it ever since. I wish more folks would use that stand up bass sound made famous by Tribe on Low End Theory. It just adds such a dpth to the bass. This is a straight Bay anthem. I've never been there but I will and I will mos def be looking for some shows while I'm there. It's hard to imagine so many great acts in such a small geographical area. It kinda makes me want to move ya know. I saw Zion I open up for a better known act and totally steal the show. I don't even remember the headliner and rightfully so.

Jamie Lidell - Multiply

Sometimes you just need to pair down the electronics and embrace some good old-fashioned soul music. This reminds me that I need to buy more Otis Redding and so do you. Buy some Jamie Lidell while you're at it. Maybe then he can buys some new looks. Seriously, if you ever see me looking like this, go on,ask me what the hell I'm thinking. I wish this guy would stop trying to be so cool in that jacket. Not all potential fans are teenage pop adicts, or are they. On the real this guy is showing off some real talent and substance that have become all too rare and will insure he probably will come nowhere close to any charts. I like it alot! Throw that organ in for some additional richness. Aw yeah!

Dangerdoom - ATHF

This is a collaboration between one of my favorite producers with probably my favorite mc. Dangermouse first made a name for himself by mixing Jay-Z's Black Album with The Beatle's White Album. Since then his level of production has been stellar and has culminated the success of the super group Gnarls Barkley. Mf Doom has been the most mysterious mc to grace the mic since Kool Keith brought on Doctor Octagon. Call it a gimmick and hate all you want, it won't stop Doom from impending world domination. Throw in a theme featuring Adult Swim characters and you've got a surefire success on your hands. Enjoy!

Alias - Sixes Last

I hadn't heard Alias before coming across this video. I was impressed by their adept sound manipulation and the video is featuring some great looking graphics that appear to be some mechanical almost alien organic life forms. At times it looks like eyes staring out of blossoming landing gear. Very cool.

Quasimoto - Bullyshit

Quasimoto aka Madlib is one of the most original hip-hop heads out there. His production and rhymes are so far left of center that most people miss the point of his creative edge. There's no denying the weirdness of his creations. Does it make me weird to have listened to this song so many times I have the lyrics memorized? Hmmm. This is where the album starts and it just becomes more bizarre throughout. Experimental doesn't even begin to cover it.

The Tape vs. RQM - Hungry Man

Before that Miss Pacman jam got us all buzzin' about RQM there was this catchy track vs. The Tape. RQM has got some beats that make Pharell just sound weak. I've a got a thing for the claps like The Tape does, but my love is even stronger for some dirty bass. File this under what you need to hear. Play loud and ride it all the way out!

Roots Manuva - Colossal Insight

Roots Manuva is one of the smoothest and most inventive mc's today. There's plenty of colossal insight in this one to match the colossal interest in this British mc, yet it appears that his ego is in line with his wisdom. Roots is careful not to be pigeon-holed in any one style as he seems comfortable flipping any which one he desires. Although the blinged-out masses following mainstream hiphop can't be bothered to notice, I can't say I mind keeping some things pure. Be sure your not foolish enough to miss this talented rhymesayer.

Kaos - Now & Forever

If you were take the guitars from Bloc Party, add the vocals of the Cold War Kids and play them over some LCD Soundsystem beats you would come up with this one. It's some damn catchy it's just best to play over and over. You never know what you'll get from !K7 records but you can guess regardless of genre that it's probably pretty damn good. This is certainly an example of that theory.

Ellen Allien - Down

No need to adjust your set, this is exactly what your supposed to be watching. This electro steppin' monster is intended for shakin' groove thangs. What are you waiting for? What your mesmerized by one of these dudes about to birth an alien out of his belly? Possibly Ellen Allien? Try to stop watching. I dare you. What's your problem. Is this the sort of thing your into? Chubby chaser heaven can be found in this video. If the Fat Camp Feva didn't work, I suggest dancing it off, or just a dance off. Either one works really.

Funkstorung - Fat Camp Feva

Funkstorung seem to always place themselves at the crossroads between visual and audio candy. This one song has more production in it than most American hip hop albums in their entirety. I love it! I've got a feva and the only medicine for it is fat camp? I certainly feel better about the state of music and it's future after coming across this gem.

Plaid - Itsu

Did you ever wonder what happened to the little piggie that went to the market. This is the story of all the little piggies that went there with'em. Whether it's the stock market or the capitalist market, this video makes me as uncomfortable as the ratrace always has. Maybe it should be called the pig race. Under the veil of all those expensive things lies a foundation of corruption as foul as can be found anywhere. This track is right on for a bleepy, eerie techno vibe. The production is on point and the video is really not to be missed. Is that a tube steak in that dude's pants. If this video gives you one in yours, seek help now. It just occured to me that pork is "the other white meat", and corporate America is full of it in more ways than I can count! Directed by Pleix.

Blockhead - Insomniac Olympics

Blockhead has a tendency to make difficult tracks sound so simple. He's got like this vocal sample tweakin' like some Peter Frampton guitar jam. Blockhead is one to watch for sure, I've got a feeling there's much more to come from this dude, especially if he's an insomniac. That's not a problem for me. I love sleep. If it weren't for this blasted job I would sleep late. It's much easier for my constitution. If I were an insomniac I'd probably get into some Conan. Not O'Brien, but rather O'Barbarian if you know what I mean. These beats will make ya najaheads around the block and the clock. That's all! That's it! Word is born!

TV On The Radio - Staring At The Sun

Man, I don't like acid flashbacks or bad dancing, however my love of pretty colors cannot be denied on this one. In fact, if the sun were up right now I might consider staring at it just to see some of those great spots. You know you like them even though you're not supposed to do it, everyone reading this knows what the hell I'm talking about. Don't you! TV On The Radio are like the Beach Boys if the Boys had xtc instead of lsd back in the day. Maybe they did? Anyways, TV On The Radio bring such a rich audio experience that they truly set themselves apart from most music you can find today, hence the name. It's kinda like Smell-o-vision cept different. I dig it and you should too!

Wildchild - Wonder Years

Wildchild has a heavy flow that rocks more content in a single line than some mcs drop in a whole song. Unfortunately for him, that means he's probably only be reaching those that like to think for themselves and ensures little radio play. We'll play him all day to make up for it. Much love for Wildchild for focusing on some real b-boying in this one. He was once a member of the Lootpack with Madlib and is consistently tight.

Madlib - Slim's Return

Madlib is a hip-hop triathlete. Not only does he produce tracks, and cut and scratch, he is also one of the most inventive mcs today. For further evidence see the insane intergalactic philosophies of his alter ego, Quasimoto. Madlib first made a name for himself as a member of the now defunkt rap group the Lootpack. As someone who specializes in diggin in the record crates, Stones Throw Records seems like the perfect home for Madlib. Definitely check some of his other works, but I must warn most of them will make this seem tame!

Lyrics Born feat. Lateef - The Last Trumpet

This one is something special. Back in the day Lateef and Lyrics Born formed a group called Latyrx that featured production and cuts from DJ Shadow. Still to this day theyset the bar too high for most to even hope to touch. Seriously, this is why I love rap music. Watching shadows of planes fly by high rise buildings produces the desired discomfort. Things are very wrong right now! Oh yeah can I just say screw Van Halen's Right Now, this is our Right Now.

Lyrics Born - Bad Dreams

Damn this song is catchy. This is off the Later That Day album and it is a must peep. Lyrics Born has one of the best flows in the game and this is just another example. You can run from your problems in everyday life but some way or another they will catch up with you, even if it's just your subconscious rearing its' head in yours. Word!

Heiruspecs - 5ves

What else is going down in St. Paul other than the republican convention? One of the best unheard hip hop groups around HEIRUSPECS of coarse. I picked up "A Tiger Dancing" back in 2004 and have been waiting to hear new tracks since. Looks like they are working on a new CD "10 Years Stong". Stop by their myspace page and check out this full jazz funk fusion hiphop.

Hezekiah - Soul Music

I don't know much about Hezekiah, but this song rocks. These guys are like a mix between Black Eyed Peas and Slum Village on this one. The video is nice and I look forward for more from these guys!

Gift Of Gab - Rat Race

Gift Of Gab has some of the nicest mc skillz in the world. For further evidence reference A to Z, an absolute statement of lyrical proweress. This is one dude I would take in a lyrical battle against just about anyone. Gift of Gab has proven to be one of the most creative mcs in the game. Rat Race is something just about anyone can relate to. I'm thinking about work right now!

General Elektriks - Facing That Void

This is a great song about facing the demons of addiction. The video is an entertaining animated gem that keeps you interested throughout. This is on Quannum Records which is the baby of famous DJ/Producer DJ Shadow. This is uncontrollably contagious underground hip-hop at it's finest.

Adventure Time - Sandy Shores

This is a beautiful song about stepping back into the forgotten past, almost a return to the primordial seas. It's got some nice vocals including some poetry from Saul Williams. Saul is a spoken word poet/musician who tends to make all the rest appear to be underachievers. I've totally slept on this one and I know I'm not the only one. This one's a gem in my book.

Ursula Rucker - Supa Sista

Ursula Rucker sings beautiful poetry. She is an artist with a mind to try and empower young women to take a stand against preconcieved notions of how they should act or what they can be. I had the opportunity to see her perform one lazy Sunday afternoon and couldn't help but feel closer to God when it ended. Ursula keeps it powerful. Listen and learn fools. One Love!

Tosca - Honey

Does Honey make you sticky?...I mean when you pour it all over your body? This write up is almost as wrong as this video. Tosca kick ass when it comes to ultra chillout grooves. If this video and song are in a word honey, the phrase no money no honey has never been more true. This is the extended version. Just let it ride. Er..why does this video make everything seem so dirty. Tosca is an electronic music project of Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber. You may recognize Dorfmeister's name from the famous group Kruder and Dorfmeister.

LFO - Freak

This video instantly made me think of the movies The Ring and The Grudge with the eerie music and little Asian girls in school outfits. I don't blame this teacher one bit for not wanting to do the military crawl to get out of the bathroom stall. That's nasty and finding another way out allows her a little more time to enjoy the electro funk of this LFO jam. LFO has been leading the way in the style of music to invade Earth to. "This is going to make you freak!" By the way, you need to know when it's just best to back off someone's little fluffy stuffed animal or get wrecked. This is like an Asian girl fight club, feel free to bang your head to the beat. When computers get funky, it may just be LFO pushin' buttons.
